Nuthatch Picture Frame

Mother's Day remembrance for my mum

Nuthatch Picture Frame

About this project

This is the first piece I've made using lumber repurposed from an old bed frame. The bed frame is likely from the mid-1800s and was the bed my grandfather was born in and it has been kept in the family for a long time. But because of the recent passing of my grandparents, the bed frame no longer has a dedicated home and I was given it to use for lumber.

The first piece I planed down was a bed slat that supported a mattress. It is a gorgeous wood that I am working on identifying. It could be a species of mahogany, or maybe teak.

I feel so grateful to be able to work with this wood and build projects with it for my family. I think it's the best honor I could give my grandfather and his family tree--my family tree.
